I’ve been in a situation where I’ve been in an area that I’m unfamiliar with and one of my dogs was taken seriously unwell.

It was difficult to locate a vet’s and I needed to do a whole load of research to find a local surgery that would accommodate my dog.

So, if you’re from outside the Ribble Valley, maybe on holiday or passing through, and you need to find a vet, then this article is for you.

There are two vets – I’ve been a customer of both and they are located at the north end of Clitheroe, the nearest landmarks being Tesco and the Grammar School.

Myerscough Veterinary Group

Princess Avenue, Clitheroe, BB7 2AL. 01200 423256

Part of a group of vets across the North West. I had three Springer spaniels registered with them when I lived on the northern edge of the Ribble Valley.

Emergency cover as well as more regular services.

Mearley Veterinary Group

Holden Street, Clitheroe. BB7 1LU. 01200 423763

My current vet’s. Easy to find as it’s directly opposite Tesco.

They are great with my 3 Cocker spaniels and the responsiveness and service is what you would expect.

Longridge Vets

54, Preston Road, Longridge. PR3 3AY. 01772 783327

I’ve no experience of this veterinary practice other than when I found a dog on Longridge Fell and took her here.

They were very helpful.

Located right on the Preston fringe of the Ribble Valley and handy if you’re staying at Beacon Fell or other accommodation near Longridge.

There are other vets as well just outside of the Ribble Valley, most of them are part of the same group as Mearley and Myerscough and, when you call, they may direct you to one of their other surgeries.

The main ones are on the A59 near to Samlesbury, Accrington and Padiham, all of which are within 30 minutes ( and less ) drive from Clitheroe.
