If you are visiting the Ribble Valley and you find that you have run out of dog food for Bruce or cat food for Matilda then you may be wondering just how you are going to keep your furry friend fed.

You can always get basic pet supplies at the supermarkets which are located in Clitheroe and Longridge or the smaller stores that are scattered around the region such as in Whalley, Chatburn and Ribchester.

However, if you need something more substantial or that is a more specialised food then you’ll need to visit one of the more comprehensive suppliers in the area.

There are several options dependent upon your needs and the needs of your pet and here are our suggestions based upon our personal experiences.

Whalley Corn Mills

Whalley Corn Mills, Brookhouse Farm, Whalley Road, Mitton, BB7 9PF.

This is a local agricultural merchant, accessible from all areas of the Ribble Valley. You’ll find a wide range of wet and dry foods for dogs and cats from single tins of wet food to 25 Kg bags of dry, specialised foods such as Eukanuba and other branded products.

The business caters for all types of pets and also caters for equestrian needs as well as domestic animals.

If you are looking for outdoor clothing such as coats or wellies then it’s worth visiting to see what is on offer and you’ll also find smokeless fuels, straw, hay and seasonal items on offer.

Ribble Valley Animal Feeds

Unit 10, Barrow Brook Trade Park, Clitheroe BB7 9BQ

Closer to Clitheroe and just off the A59 on the small industrial estate behind McDonald’s, this is another source of pet foods that I have used and it’s easy to find if you are not familiar with the area.

They offer a large range of dog, cat and other pet supplies and also cater for horses and farm animals with a wide range of choices and accessories and you have the option to order online and collect direct from their warehouse.

Pets at Home

You’ll find a Pets at Home on the outskirts of Clitheroe, situated behind Aldi on Whalley Road ( A671 ).

I don’t think that I need to say much more about the business as they are a well known national pet supplier other than, from my personal experience, their stock can be often hit and miss and I’ve visited there in the past for items that they’ve previously stocked only to find that they no longer have them or they have sold out.

An option none the less if you need things for your pet when visiting and conveniently located on the edge of Clitheroe.

Alpha Pet Warehouse

Unit 65 Roman Way Industrial Estate, Preston, PR2 5BE

This is a fourth option for you if you are finding it difficult to get what you need.

They are located outside the Ribble Valley just beyond Grimsargh heading towards the M6 at Preston.

If you are in the west side of the Ribble Valley, say Longridge area then it’s about a 10 minute car journey away.

I use this supplier a lot as I work nearby and they sell a range of frozen tripe products, in bulk, that my spaniels enjoy.

They have a good range of dog and cat foods, from tins through to large bags of branded foods and their own ranges too.
